Legal Theft

Editor's Note: Purchasing delinquent tax property is a hobby for certain folks.  One such outfit is a group that calls itself the "Pocahontas County Development Authority."  Now you would assume that they have something to do with county government.  There was once, in fact, such an authority, but they disbanded and dissolved.  They no longer exist.

But one of their members decided to usurp the title and has been buying tax delinquent property in Pocahontas County.  It is this editor's opinion that this is not a bona fide entity.  If your land has been bought at tax sale you may want to consult a lawyer.

While not the same case at all,  the subject of our posting today has to do with an effort to seize a man's home worth $42,000.  Our reporter indicated that a realtor  and the pretended owner showed up one day and ordered them to leave the home because it had been purchased at a tax sale.

But the owner knew nothing of the sale.  He hired a lawyer and took the matter to court.  The judge ruled that he had no been served sufficient notice and ordered the quitclaim deed to be null and void.
