We have long contended that the public defender system in Pocahontas County is broken. They get paid regardless of how much or how little they do for their client. If you get a public defender who doesn't want to travel as far away as Belington, WV you could well be up the creek without a means of locomotion. Our local public defender has had Farrell's case since October and he still hasn't had a trial for peeing in an alley. Farrell's has had three other cases since then, none of which has gone to trial. Laura Spadora has "served" as Farrell's attorney during the interim. We have our doubts about her competence.
