Editor's Note: Our school board wants us to vote for a levy this fall so that we can have a new high school. I got to thinking that maybe that the high school is really not that old.
The average age of an American High School is 42 years old. So according to the Pocahontas County School Board the entire us must need a new High School. Again I can only stress the fact that the age of a high school is not the issue the fact is most of them have had no normal upgrades done as needed . This is because the school board do not plan ahead just like the federal government does not that is why we are in such the debt. $100 spent fifteen years ago on upgrades goes a lot farther than it does today.
Let me make something plain and clear. I am not trying to say that work does not need to be done on the high school building I am saying it probably does not need replaced had the school board performed normal routine upgrades we would not have to spend Millions at one time and have a levy. It's really quite simple they've been neglected their responsibilities and now expect the people to pay for their mistake had they spent money wisely over the last 20 years there would be no need to do what they are wanting to do. The Road Runner...
If we get tricked into believing that we need a new high school, can a new court-house,and a new White House, new Capitol Buildings be far behind? Let those fat greasy taxpayers buy me new dirt under my feet, too, while they're at it...oops, that is me!
