Told to Stand Down

Our northern correspondent reports that there are rumors to the effect that the BFD was told to stand down and let the Curry house burn to the ground.  The folks lost everything!!

This was despite the word that various members of the fire department wanted to put out the blaze.  Does anyone have anymore information?

Had they not paid their fire fee?

  2. this fire happened a few weeks ago it was the barb house on curry road chief buster would not let the trucks down to fight the fire he stood up on the hill and watched the place burn to the ground the family lost everything the daughter did not even have school clothes to wear to high school....it has been said that buster has does this same thing before when the fire fee is not paid ...if this is true varner should be removed as chief immediately and not have anything to do with that department ....the county pays these fire companies to put out fires and not to watch them burn ...the problem seems to be in this county that there are to many self appointed tin gods .....also sounds like two volunteers resigned over this incident because of busters lack of action at this fire .....

  3. I was not there and I am not sticking up for buster here but one has to take into account how far the far was along at the time the fire department arrived.
Its not uncommon if a building is obviously not going to make it to allow it to burn if there are no other structures in danger.
It may not make sense to risk the safety of fire fighters and equipment to fight a losing cause.
I or no one elese who wasvthere can say if that is the case or not.
Again I not sticking up for buster I dont like him.
I do know a little about fire fighting however.
    One should know the facts.

  4. Norman:
Contact the State Fire Marshall and report the circumstances surrounding this. That will "Light a Fire under Buster's Ass".

  6. what mud ??? it is fair to ask a question and if anyone asks the state fire marshall it should be the Pocahontas county commissioners request that it be looked into ....no one should be beyond review in this county paid or not paid .... nobody twists busters arm to be fire chief

  8. well dennis egan the family stopped by the greenbank senior center the other day and they do not think that above statements were mud slinging in fact they say those things are true of course they had Christmas with nothing no house no clothing no santa ...you know dennis egan this is sad times for that family and of course this isn`t like when you and holstine ginned up a hatchet job against david burner and got him fired at the nrao over nothing ....it would be better for this family to get help after the stand down order buster gave that night caused these good people to loose everything

    1. Will someone please call the State Fire Marshall on these individuals and let them sort this out? This will either clear them or fry them. This does not have to go through the County Commission. It just needs someone with well founded information and is welling to step up and testify to get their attention. I guess this will end up like so many other issues and situations. All talk no action. Grow a set of balls and step up and do the right thing or keep your mouth shut.

  10. There will be an open meeting on Thursday, January 19, 2017, in the Observatory Science Center auditorium at 7:00 p.m. to address any questions that members of the community have about fire protection in the upper end of Pocahontas County. The Assistant Fire Marshal will be there along with a County Commissioner and officers of the BFD and Cass fire departments. It is a good opportunity to clear up any confusion about this fire or any other issue concerning fire or ambulance response in this end of the county.

  11. So Norman how did the open meeting in January go in regards to the Northern County Mob Leader "Busta" aka Fire Chief?
