West Virginia State Police want the public to know that anyone who makes threats, even jokingly, against a school will face serious consequences.
State Police responded to bomb threats at Pocahontas County High School and Tug Valley High School, according to Lt. Michael Baylous. In both incidents, students left a message stating that a bomb would detonate. Fortunately, both bomb threats were hoaxes.
Five students have been or will be charged with making terroristic threats, according to a new release from state police.
If convicted, the students face a fine of up to $25,000, one to three years in a state correctional facility, or both.
Regardless of the reason someone may give for making a bomb threat, the West Virginia State Police said it will vigorously pursue justice.
“Prosecutor’s Offices and County Boards of Education across the state will continue to work with the West Virginia State Police to identify all threats to the safety and well-being of our children, the press release stated. “Anyone considering making a bomb threat should realize that the consequences most likely will be severe and have a lasting impact on their life.”
