Musical Boats: The Pocahontas Board of Education went through a rather elaborate ritual of making a decision to move the fifth grade students back to their original schools. This would place them in direct proximity to the next flood because MES is located directly in the floodplain. In fact, MES has suffered repeatedly from flood after flood.
They finally decided at a recent meeting to do so. BUT BEHIND THE SCENES certain persons were working to move the board office OUT OF THE FLOODPLAIN. We discovered in a recent out-of-county news article that the Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation has been asked to donate the Edray industrial site with its brand new building to the school board. This would let the superintendent and the officials in the board office be completely out of the floodplain. How convenient!
Not only were they planning while making this decision about moving the 5th grade but they were planning to get themselves out of danger. Thank goodness, the school board, wasn't piloting the Titanic. You will recent that the captain of the ferry which sank a few days ago drowning hundreds SOMEHOW SURVIVED. Well you can't accuse your school board of not thinking about themselves.
Then to add to the hypocrisy, the County Commissioner who is negotiating for the Edray Facility is none other than Bill Beard, husband of a school board employee. How convenient!!
Then we must remember that the school board is contemplating a levy to raise our taxes. Do they want us to finance their plans to move the kids back to MES?? Look at this article from the Pocahontas Times!
The Board wants to move - I ask why.
ReplyDeleteThey want a grand palace in the sky.
But back in the Town
The kids might just drown.
That's OK if the Board's feet remain dry.
on a different subject ......... where does fleming live exactly ..........are his w2`s or his official addrees public knowledge ??????? would a freedom of information act request apply here ??????? this is a pretty simple question, cause if the guy does not have an address in the northern district,he certainly has no business being a commissioner .........if he does not own any property ,or have a lease to rent a house in his name in the district he represents, what is the point of him being on the ballot .........really what does he have invested in representing us ,and how can he relate to the property owners and tax payers of the county ......... if the only commitment he has to the tax payers is his pay check ,it is time for him to go.....any thing he decides on as a commissioner will never directly impact him ..........you can safely say that he has no dog in this fight .........has there ever been a commissioner before that no one can say for certain where he lives for sure ????????i am not asking for anyone to look into windows or to stalk him ,just asking what his new 911 address his,and who owns the house which he calls home ???????as for myself, his being shacked up with someone ,doesn`t really cut it for me ..........a while back he told people that he lives on the old burgess farm in greenbank........i have never seen him at that house so i would believe that was a bold face lie ..........so fleming it is time to put up or shut the - - - - up ..........at the very least produce a lease with your name on it ,mr.fleming .......
ReplyDeletePutting in a vocational school in that building is a good idea and it's does mean jobs who will teach for a building that has sit empty all these years it's about time someone came up with something to get this county moving foreword .
ReplyDeletesounds like the intent is to make it an office for the b.o.e.,not a vo-tec site ......... that building never was about jobs ,rather it was another case of payola, from the g,v,e,d,c,...... i would rather see meck get the building,he could board up the doors and windows and fill it with snowshoe poop ............really it is a nice building ,but anyone who showed any interest in the site was turned away ..........any plan conflicts with keeping the minimum wage, which in turn keeps the chamber of commerce happy ,and is not a good fit with the tourist industry,in other words snowshoe .......... just think there is another 99 acres left to piss away ......... remember the damacus knife guy wanted the building ,well they couldn`t dust him off fast enough,he even threatened to pay a living wage ,what an abomination that would have been !!!!!!!!! the whole plan is to keep wages low and hold everybody down ........
DeleteChief hit the nail on the head. A dry board office is now and has been the sole purpose of the proposed move. It seems that around here if someone wants anything from the government, county, state or federal, he or she asks for the sun, moon and starts, and then dangles the JOB CARROT in front of the money bags. Governments seem ready to pour zillions of dollars into a project, no matter how ill conceived, if someone dangles the JOB CARROT. The history of this county is the poster child for waste of tax money with no net increase of jobs. This county is also the poster child for keeping real private sector jobs away, as Chief has so astutely pointed out, but that is another matter. Private sector jobs produce a net increase of income for the governing area. Public sector jobs, because of their inherent inefficiency, produce a negative benefit/cost ratio. In the case at hand the board wants a different office, and to help get it, is dangling the JOB CARROT in front of the GVEDC. If the board does get the "industrial park" at Edray, the possibility for real private sector jobs will be foreclosed. After all, wasn't real jobs the ruse for spending millions of tax dollars for the industrial park? Now this county has TWO 50,000 square foot buildings with no private sector jobs in them. I don't know if a total change in our elected and appointed leaders would make things better, but it sure as Hades could not make things worse.
ReplyDeletehey, they can create a vocational program in there whereby all the druggies on day report and home confinement can come and toil away and manufacture life vests and life jackets for all the students so that they will at least be floating and will be easier to find when the school kids get swept away in the next flood !!!
ReplyDeletecall Obama and tell him u got another "shovel ready" project and are ready to go!
ReplyDeleteit ought to be worth something to be able to swindle some more federal dollars back to wv.
for some strange reason, robert byrd just aint getting the job done anymore.
