Assessor Seeking Tax Status--Could mean a bundle of $$$ for the County

Editor's Note:  For the first time in years someone has finally listened to us re: the huge blue building at Frank, the Sun Propane plant at Frank,  and the Meck property at  Green Bank.  The blue building is a goldmine.  It regularly brings almost $8,000 per month but there is not a penny of property tax coming to the county.  All of this pours into the GVEC authority in Greenbrier County.

Until nw as far as we know all three of these properties are tax exempt.  Yet all three are operating by private business not unlike the Dog Grooming Business at the ARC building and the SPCA building at Marlinton.

The county just got a huge tax bill for the ARC building and the SPCA building has to come up with $800 which is hard because it is run by volunteers.  They made the mistake of letting the Frank Vet rent the building periodically.

But for some reason the Durbin and Dunmore property have escaped the state department's eye (UNTIL NOW)  Able and fair assessor Tom Lane is querying  the state regarding  these properties.

Because they have escaped tax free for years,  there would be a HUGE BACK TAX OWED BY THE Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Authority the entity that has been getting this huge amount of rent for years.

We appreciate the efforts of Assessor Lane as he works to get these buildings taxed property.  We may be looking a nearly $1,000,000 in taxes.

This could put our Senior Citizens groups back in order,  fund our library system,  and provide storage space in the courthouse for our records thereby eliminating the proposed movement of some county records to Charleston.

Let's hope that Tom receives a good answer from Charleston. Good going Mr. Assessor!!
