The Rule of Law

By Chris Anders, seen on the West Virginia Campaign for Liberty facebook page

This is a post that I think is one of the most important I have posted.
Whether or not you agree with me on the issue, you should understand the overall implications of recent developments in the West Virginia State Capital.
And this applies not just to West Virginians but all Americans.
I am not sure where to start, but let me tell you a little tale.
In 2012 as a delegate to the State Republican Convention, I and others dedicated to the Constitution were successful in introducing a measure for the party platform that basically stated the the rule of law must be followed. That the Constitution must be honored and that no West Virginia National Guard personnel are to be deployed into combat without a Constitutional Congressional Declaration of War.
This year and last, during the state legislative session, House Bill 2168 was introduced to do just that.
To protect our men and women in the National Guard, to provide them with the protection under the Constitution that they will not be sent to fight and die without due process. That without the people's representatives in Congress voting to go to war, these brave men and women would not be under the control of basically a king who can order them all over the globe at their whim.
For the second year in a row, military officials from the Pentagon have demanded that if there is even a vote on House Bill 2168, they would remove all Federal Assets and shut down the State National Guard.
That somehow these military officials, and the administration that they report to are above the law of the land.
Our Bill sponsor had placed the bill up for a vote in the Veteran's affairs committee of the House of Delegates, which created an uproar in the Pentagon, who immediately started threatening again the continuation of the West Virginia National Guard unless the bill was pulled and never voted upon.
The Adjutant General of the West Virginia National Guard contacted the Speaker of the House and, even though his party platform espoused the Constitution and the rule of law, he on his own accord, pulled the bill, which baring a discharge to the House floor, will never ever be voted on.
The reason I put this out for all of you to understand, is simply this.
From the President down to every day Americans, we are all subject to the restrictions of the Constitution of the United States.
Or we are supposed to be.
However, much like in 1774 Boston, we are instead ruled by a military structure, with no accountability to the people or the people's representatives in Congress.
That the Pentagon and the Administration feel they are above the law and rule by fiat.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans fought and died to create and preserve the Constitution of these United States.
That, unlike other countries in the world, the government is restrained by a contract between the various states that prevents a virtual dictator from sending you to die in foreign lands without the protection of a vote by your elected servants.
And now while the effort is being made to force women to now sign up for the draft, without this Constitutional protection you can be virtually a slave to the Military Industrial Complex and the whims of anyone who sits in the White House.
Whether or you agree on this particular issue or not, this will one day apply to an issue that you do feel strongly about. Or one that will impact you life or liberty.
Think on this. Are we now that far removed from the Military Governorship of Thomas Gage and King George III?
Have we come full circle in that the law no longer applies to any of those in the power elite?
Is your life now owned, not by yourself and your chosen representatives, but by a military tribunal and a dictator?
That they, and they alone enslave your very existence?
The Constitution is a mere piece of paper, unless you, and you personally force the government to abide by its restrictions.
And if you spend another day with your head in the sand, what future does that leave to our children.
Land of the free and home of the brave?
Freedom is the battle of every generation. Protection under the law is the battle we now face.
There is virtually no hope in changing the power structure in Washington D.C. by voting in yet another dictator other either party, if the Constitution is not upheld by your state and your elected representatives.
And their election or defeat you can impact.
From County elected positions to your representatives at the State and Federal level you can make a difference.
But you have to ask yourself, do you care?
Are you willing to once again restore the Constitution and the rule of law in our country?
If not, how can you look your children in the eye as you watch them being sent time and again into undeclared wars to die for something they do not understand or wish to?
That you sat by and did nothing.
Think.
